Aykan Özener was born in 1964 in Balıkesir. He graduated from Selçuk University, Archeology Department. He completed his Master’s study with a dissertation on “Photography Techniques in the Science of Archeology”. He started his works on photography in 1983. Becoming a member of Ankara Photography Artists Society (AFSAD) in 1987, he continued his artistic quest with AFSAD until 1995. Since then, he has pursued his works independently.
He worked as a lecturer in the field of Photography in Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University for 17 years.
He held solo exhibitions, seminars and had his photographs and articles published in various art magazines. He organized Çanakkale Photography Festival from 2002 to 2007.
Özener currently acts, also, as the chairman of Pan Visual Culture and Art Association that he founded in Çanakkale and is the photo editor of the archaeology magazine Aktüel Arkeoloji.
