Ateş Evirgen was born in 1956 in Ankara. He completed his undergraduate studies in the Faculty of Business Administration at İstanbul University. Trained on scuba diving in 1977, he himself became a diving instructor. In 1982 he started underwater photography. 1992 he held his first underwater photography exhibition. He started publishing “The Underwater World Journal” in 1996 and continued as the editor of the magasine until 2009. Evirgen took underwater photographs all around the world.
He has two published books titled “The Marine Fish of Turkey with Photographs” and “Taking Underwater Photography”. He is a founding member and, currently, the President of the “Association of Underwater Photographers and Film Makers” established in 2017.
