He was born in Gaziantep in 1965. Between 1982 and 1986, he studied at Ankara University, Faculty of Language History and Geography, Department of Hungarology. He, then, studied at Dokuz Eylül University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Cinema-Television and Photography and graduated in 1990. In 1992 he completed his Master’s studies on “Contemporary Hungarian Cinema and Istvan Szabo” and in 1996, he received his doctoral degree. Özdemir focuses on the discovery and acceptance of photography as an art vision, and technical, ideological and esthetic intervention to photograph at modern times.
He has held 35 solo exhibitions in Turkey and foreign countries, and participated in more than 60 group exhibitions. He has also participated in national and international symposiums and had numerous articles published in magazines. He has received 20 awards on photography including 3 international prizes.
Özdemir is a member of İFOD (İzmir Photographic Art Association) and GAFSAD (Gaziantep Photographic Art Society). He was the Chairman of Board of İFOD between 2007 and 2017 and Deputy Chairman of Board of PAFT (Photographic Arts Federation of Turkey) between 2013 and 2015. Since 2017 Özdemir has been the Chairman of Board of PAFT. He is a Doctor Instructor at Dokuz Eylül University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Photography.
